AjaxWorld 2008, New York
2008/03/20 21:49Here (again) in New York, participating the AjaxWorld East. To me the most striking first feeling of the conference is that the majority of the participants are new to Ajax. In year 2008! And the number of early adopters is relatively small and thus number of really deeply technical sessions is also small. Instead we hear a lot of introductions and product pitches. Maybe this just means that Ajax has finally moved from early adoption phase to mass-adoption.
As a refreshing exception, Douglas Crockford from Yahoo gave an excellent keynote on Can We Fix The Web?. Definitely worth watching when it goes online on AjaxWorld website. Douglas was really worried about the security of mashups and proposed that we should try to redesign the web before Adobe (AIR) and Microsoft (Silverlight) does it for us in a proprietary way.
Another interesting talk was given by Dietrich Kappe from Pathfinder. Kappe introduced nice practical method of turning old web-apps to data-sources for GWT-based RIA:s.
